And it could mean this West Street shop is lost to retail, and that could be the start of the contraction of the town centre.
As reported here two weeks ago, The Oracle has an amazing nine empty shops, the first time it’s been so lacking in tenants since it opened in 1999. With Jacksons closing, the town centre, in what is a thriving part of the UK, seems to be shrinking.
Even with the incredible number of flats being built, there aren’t the shoppers to keep everywhere open. What does seem to thrive is convenience stores and over priced bars and coffee shops.
If Primark leaves West Street, the other shops will suffer. Now is the tome the council got involved. This is one area that shouldn’t be left to the market.
