Mini Cooper

photo The Cooper BMW garage has long been earmarked for redevelopment but who can have predicted the scale of what is being planned?

Just a few years after we heard constant references to the lack of family homes in Reading and a town overrun with apartments, we get a plan for 350 on relatively tiny footprint.

The redevelopment of Reading station has prompted incredible office schemes but this is the first sign of a residential project on the same scale.

This must actually be a safer bet than the offices, few of which have attracted the expected new tenants. No-one doubts buyers will be found.

What’s amazing is that no-one had previously thought of the fact that a hugely enlarged station will be quite handy for getting out of Reading.

Surely sometime in the next few years, the new owners of nearby Reading Bridge House will realise they are sitting on a potential residential conversion that can outdo even the new high rise neighbours.

With parking and a riverside view, the ugly 60s duckling could finally become a beautiful swan. Not to mention, make somebody a small fortune.
