Meadows lark

photoChristchurch Meadows has turned into a building site while work on the new footbridge starts.

This bridge has split the public.

Inevitably some are up in arms because it needs disruption to trees and grass but what should really concern people is why a footbridge can be waved through and funded while a third road bridge is just as far away as ever.

The government money funding this bridge is a take-it-or-leave-it offer so little wonder it is being pursued.

But with Reading Bridge 100 yards away, it’s hard to see why the government was so keen to give away money for a bridge we could manage without.

However nice it proves, it was public money, spent with very little purpose.
