But as Cllr Tony Page seemed to acknowledge in his reference to the fact it mustn’t look like something from Homebase, this is very much Plan C as far as this building goes.
Over a decade ago a major revamp was planned with three more stories and a restaurant added. Then the far more dramatic redevelopment of a few years ago bit the dust before the current ‘New York’ look with terracotta tiles was accepted and now seems likely to go ahead.
Perhaps only when this is finally done will the full impact of this extraordinary looking building – the first many will see when they get off their trains – be felt.
Trouble is by then it will be a bit late to put right.
