Pure indulgence

photoScotts the bakers was once a well-known fixture in Caversham. It closes some years and and so when local bakery Warings arrived to revive this shop, locals were delighted.

Now a curious rebrand has taken place which appears to suggest it’s more inclined to be taking on the area’s coffee shops.

The indulgent Baker, as it’s now called, has brown colouring with comfy chairs in its cafe area which seem more in line with the modern craze for relaxing with a coffee.

From a bakery that started in a house in Tilehurst in 1932, it has adapted to suit moving times. The name suggests something a little special, treating yourself and your family rather than buying an off-the-shelf cake from a supermarket.

With precinct redevelopment possibly only a year away, let’s hope this slightly new direction succeeds so that when the extra customers arrive, Warings is there to exploit them rather than another massive chain.
