Time shift

photo1xIt’s popular to think of Jacksons – now in its last few days of 138 years of existence – as a shop that never updated.

However that perception is quite wrong. A recent conversation with someone with great historical knowledge revealed that the management of the shop in the 1950s decided to go against the modernisation trend that had seen so many change their ways.

Modern tills and bright new looks were left to rivals. So while it’s common to think of the shop as one that never came up to date, that’s only true from the 1950s when the shop entered its time warp.

One thing is certain though. That decision is quite possibly the reason it could no longer compete.
