Thames Dour

TTThe miserable brown blot on the landscape that was meant to make way for this bright new skyscraper could be making an unwelcome return.

As reported on getreading Thames Tower, one of the most ugly office buildings in Reading, may not now be demolished and may instead be refurbished.

There were more than 30 meetings between developers and the council to get this design right. The story seemed to be that this development was on hold while the delayed Station Hill was finalised.

Yet with Station Hill now in the planning system, it seems Thames Tower was never a certainty after all.

The only thing we do know about all this is that whenever there is a major scheme being publicised there is much more we don’t know, than what we do.

With all the main players in this scheme being very tight lipped , what is interesting to try to work out now is what discussions are going on now.

With redevelopment going on all around the station area, it’s bizarre that the biggest, most prominent schemes of all, bang opposite the new £850m station, are the slowest, least certain and most disastrous of all.
