Bet on this to succeed

photo(2)The latest addition to the Friar Street landscape is one of a dismal trend. And there’s more to come.

This Betfred, replacing the former Bradford & Bingley will soon be joined by a new Coral just round the corner in Queen Victoria Street. These will of course join several others in the immediate area including two more Coral branches already in Friar Street.

It’s hard  to see what use they are, other than to the people behind the counter. Yet those already within a furlong or two including Ladbrokes, William Hill branches continue to succeed.

Even though you can bet online people are attracted by these shops which must be the only ones where the customer and the shop want opposite things. If you go into Marks they want you to be happy with what you buy. Here they want you to spend lots and lose.

Bookies can even afford prime time TV adds during football matches. You’d think that might be a warning to hardened gamblers. I wouldn’t bet on it though.
