Still reaching the Apex

How does the finance industry continue to thrive after so many scandals?

This picture in the Museum of Reading is captioned ‘Apex Plaza the home of high tech and financial companies, 1980s.’

You’d be hard pressed to find many IT companies there now. It’s banks, accountancies, law firms and little else. Yet the building maintains its high rents and its prestige.

The IT firms have moved to the edges of town where they are in good numbers.

But this building, and others like Forbury Square, remain home to a multitude of professional services firms, many of which have had questions to answer in recent years.

The national news may be full of the troubles of these institutions but their plush surroundings suggest life isn’t too bad for the organisations that have turned a prosperous land into a basket case.
