Sunday service

You won’t find the subject of a local church high on the agenda of  many business conferences.

But modern day churches are springing up in a number of industrial locations and this one, advertised on the former Hilliers building in Cardiff Road, and operating in nearby Weighbridge Road, seems to be the latest in a growing trend.

So how does a church help business? Well when the Globe Church set up in Portman Road a few years ago there was a marked improvement to the area. Car parks were tarted up and on Sundays, when previously vandals often moved in, there were now hundreds of people around.

A similar effect could benefit other industrial areas of Reading. They dovetail perfectly, attracting traffic and decent people at times when the industry is silent and vulnerable to undesirables.

Small industrial units are being created close to this area. Let’s hope the occupiers’ insurance companies appreciate the value such a juxtaposition can offer.
