You have to hand it to Woodley. Not only do they run a series of boot sales and markets on Saturdays and Sundays which gets people into the precinct, but on Reading Festival weekend, they beefed up their promotion too.
Adverts for what is a modest car boot sale this Sunday appeared in Caversham Park Road. They were also in the Oxfordshire stretch of the Henley Road and throughout Sonning and Woodley itself. That’s three councils. And who knows where else.
Politically, and in terms of business and history, Woodley had always punched above its weight but to be so active in its promotion on the one Reading residents might just be avoiding their town centre, is smart thinking. Car booters and casual buyers are sure to wander into the many open shops around the sale.
With Wokingham and Bracknell regenerations looming they might need that energetic approach.
