Bringing The House down

Last week’s closure of furniture store The House in Caversham Road leaves a gaping row of empty retail units.

Carnival Stores which, along with the takeaway unit  next to it, has been empty for months, has attracted interest but now that The House has gone, the signs are that this is not as marketable an area as it once was.

The House had previously been a toy shop and before that, it had been Todd’s Flooring for many many years.

Bell Tower Residents Association had been wary of Carnival Stores becoming a Tesco.

Faced with the choice of a row of empty boarded up shops, it may just be a reasonable alternative.
