Towns’ end?

A recent upgrade at Sheeplands garden centre at Hare Hatch is typical of the way these places are moving.

Once they sold plants and weedkiller. Now they are meeting places with excellent coffee shops. Sheeplands has just outsourced its restaurant to another provider which, so far looks like a decent upgrade.

Furthermore, they have play areas and toy shops as the picture shows. To think you can go here on a Sunday, park the car, entertain the kids, have a coffee with friends, browse the plants and use the farm shop, suggests town centres should take note.

In town you can’t park, it’s hectic and high priced, there’s little for kids and it doesn’t change much.  Struggling towns would do well to look at Sheeplands. They could discuss it over a coffee and cake. It’s cheaper than in town.
