Crime gates

As Thames Tower’s windows disappear behind huge black nets and the ground floor is gradually locked off from access the site adds to the dire eyesore that is Station Hill.

Station Hill has suffered a onslaught of break ins and Thames Tower is obviously at similar risk. The criminals that are attracted to every bit of metal and the vandals that are attracted to windows are costing us money we never really account for.

Every building whether it is going up or coming down has to protest itself from crime. Fifty years ago this kind of crime barely existed. Now gates, fences and giant nets are needed just to keep a building safe in dereliction.

Developers and landlords ought to spell out the cost of all this and present it to the Government. We all pay for this indirectly and there is a knock on effect of businesses that can’t afford to pay the high rents.

Somehow I doubt the Government really cares a great deal though.
