Join the Q

The fortunes of the grim Garrard Street car park have risen sharply with its inclusion in the new plans for Station Hill.

This gloomy place, hidden behind even gloomier offices, is in line for a makeover including new cladding, a new directional system and wider parking spaces.

A few years ago it was going to be demolished but the market is now such that Station Hill’s plans are more realistic.

There will even be shops in parts of the lower levels which, itself seems optimistic.

To be even more optimistic it would be nice if this place was run by Q-Park who have made a decent job of Chatham Street car park.

The biggest downer would not be seeing an old car park in new cladding but those three horrible letters: NCP.

When you see that you can expect no staff, little service and high prices.

Things like that can make the difference between a good experience of Reading and a bad one.
