End of the Tudors

Alongside the incredible scale of work going on around Reading station is a more humble redevelopment which will remove another troublesome eyesore.

Homes on the south side of Tudor Road had been subject of a remarkable legal wrangle when The Pinnacle office development was built opposite.

Residents found their right to light and air was affected and rather than pay out a massive sum, the office block’s developers bought up the entire row of houses.

Then they remained empty for years but now they will be replaced (not very imaginatively) by some flats with the pub possibly being turned into a shop.

It may not be the greatest use of the site but, it’s a sign that, thanks to the station redevelopment, many nearby areas might pick up. Rather like the Oracle effect a decade or so ago.

New plans for Station Hill/Thames Tower will be the next sign of how much this area could improve.
