Wi pay?

Hotels, once bursting at the seams, are now fighting for sluggish business in Reading so it’s encouraging that at last one has decided to ditch charging for wi-fi.

Wi-fi at the Millennium Madejski Hotel is now free to everyone whether you are staying over or dropping in for coffee after a football match.

With untold Costa Coffee and Wetherspoons outlets offering free internet it seems bizarre that struggling hotels are charging ridiculous amounts.  A couple of years ago my son and I went in search of free wi-fi somewhere decent like a hotel.

We were quoted £5 an hour at the Millennium Madejski, £6 an hour at the Holiday Inn South but found it free at the Malmaison. However, on returning to the Malmaison a few weeks later we were told it was now £10 an hour.

However many £10 notes there were in my wallet, I wasn’t prepared to hand one two of them for wi-fi. They really seem to be doing their best to put people off.

Few places are as nice as the Madejski’s Atrium Bar for a relaxed drink so if you can use free internet too then they deserve to succeed.
