LEP into the darkness

One of those stories that interests few people outside the business world is the emergence of another business support organisation.

Thames Valley Berkshire is the latest organisation, funded either by business or Government,  in a long line. Others, some gone some still around, include:

Thames Valley Enterprise

Business Link Thames Valley

Buisness Link Berkshire and Wiltshire

Reading UK CIC

Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce

Thames Valley Economic Partnership

Reading Enterprise Hub

Reading Innovation and Growth Team

Thames Valley Investment Network

… and probably others.

Many of the same faces crop up in the different organisations which ought to tell its own story.

Those which have gone and often been victims of cutbacks but others have been victims of the fact they all fall out with each other because they keep treading on each others toes.

Why not just have one organisation with regional divisions to support firms?

Not to attract firms to their area. That just means Government money spent on Manchester fighting against London and Kent fighting Cornwall.

And all that ends up with is spin. You won’t find many of these organisations that don’t have a PR company.
