Down the Thames

The plan to bulldoze Thames Tower and replace it with bigger, newer empty offices,(http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/s/2096656_thames_tower_in_line_for_demolition) has prompted Cllr Tony Page to urge developers to work alongside the Station Hill developers and make sure the two schemes work together.

When Sackville owned Station Hill they had tried to incorporate Thames Tower into their new scheme but whatever happened in their negotiations the Station Hill Scheme was designed without Thames Tower – a hideous blot on the landscape – being razed to the ground. It would remain the first thing you saw when you came out of the station while massive shiny office blocks were built all around.

My guess is redevelopment is very much Plan B for the owners. If they had been holding on for the best price from Sackville they clearly didn’t anticipate the crash.

And now their plan for more offices when the town can’t fill those it has already looks similarly misguided.
