Bridging moan

Left to right: The new and the old.

In an era when we don’t make anything anymore, you can’t help but admire the work to extend the Caversham Road railway bridge.

Not only was it done on time, much of it in front of a small crowd, but the extended section fits and matches the existing bit superbly.

However the nice new section of tiling under the bridge looks so good, the rest now looks rubbish, thanks to 70-odd years of cars, trains and pidgeons.

With little sign of any clean up to make the old and new match, surely it’s a chance to put all those criminals on community orders to work.
