Road to nowhere

Unless you live in Caversham Park Village you are unlikely to know what this is a picture of.

Well it is a turning off Devon Drive. Except it doesn’t go anywhere. It was meant to plough through the wooded area and join up with shops at Farnham Drive in the days when losing trees didn’t bother people.

Now of course, it won’t happen for all the tea in China. Yet take a look along the A33 close to the site of the former speedway stadium and there is a turning created for a proposed new office development Prudential planned about ten years ago.

That looks no more likely to be built than the road to Farnham Drive. It looked just as unlikely when they were putting it in about three years ago.

Why they build things like that when the proposed development is light years away I don’t think I will ever understand.
